Ulcerative colitis
Introduction:
Ulcerative colitis is an inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The ulceration in any part of the large intestine is the main feature of this disease. The patient of ulcerative colitis suffers from rectal bleeding, weight loss, fatigue, frequent stools, mucous discharge in stool, and low abdominal pain. Some people complain of the fever. Many symptoms extra to the large bowel are eye inflammation, inflammation of lung membrane, spinal joint pain, and skin disorders. It is diagnosed in Mild, moderate and severe grades.
Ayurveda View:
Ayurveda considers ulcerative colitis under atisara and grahniroga. It is primarily a pitta disorder in which ulcers and bleeding is the main feature. Pitta aggravating food and life style damage the villi of intestines and cause this problem. Toxins or ama also plays crucial role in this pathology.
Treatment:
Herbal preparations to help healing of ulcers, arrest bleeding and mucus, restoring the vitality and rasayana preparations are the line of treatment. If symptoms of ama or toxins are encountered the sufferer is advised short fasting or very light diet for few days.

Mochras, Dadima, kutaja, Bilwa, Dhanyaka, Shallaki, Gairika, and many more.
