Hypothyroidism
Introduction:
Hypothyroidism is a hormonal disorder due to deficiency of thyroid hormone. Mainly female of middle age are affected by this disorder though any sex of any age can be a sufferer. Mainly iodine deficient diets and autoimmunity are considered to be key factors responsible for hypothyroidism. The main symptoms linked with hypothyroidism are weight gain, menstrual irregularities, hair fall, and intolerance to cold, slow pulse rate, depression and muscle pains. If left undiagnosed and untreated it can also lead to life threatening condition called myxodema.
Ayurveda View:
Ayurvedic texts clearly describe that it is not important to name all the diseases, but to understand their cause and treat them accordingly. In Ayurveda the shotha roga is considered as variant of this modern hypothyroid problem. The management of this disorder is about correcting the metabolic rate and pacifying the deranged doshas.
Treatment
Herbs used in treatment of this disorder:
Kanchnar, guggulu, sunthi, varun,pippali and many more
Effective Home remedies:
- Taking antioxidants like amla powder or juice in desired dose i.e powder in the dosage of 3-5 gm and juice 40 ml per day is useful.
- Consuming drumstick flowers and beans as vegetable is also effective.
- For elevated thyroid hormones even after these measures an expert advice must be sought
