Bronchial asthma
Introduction:
Bronchial asthma is a chronic airway obstruction and hyper responsiveness problem. Mostly the cause is attributed to the external irritants and viral infections. The common symptoms are shortness of breath, wheezing, cough and tightness in chest. Sitting is usually comfortable position than lying down. Chest X Rays and Pulmonary function tests are necessary to diagnose this problem. Interestingly 10-15 % of the asthma sufferers are sensitive to Asprin and have nasal polyps too. Most of the patients get chronic and suffer the symptoms for life time.
Ayurveda View: In Ayurveda the asthma is known by the name tamak shvas. Certain dietary and life style factors that vitiate the vata and kapha are considered to be the cause of this chronic problem. The undigested or ill digested food known as Ama is also a causative factor.
Treatment
Herbs used in treatment of this disorder:
Kantakari, Shati, Bharangi, Somlata, Haridra, Dhatura and Lasuna
Effective Home remedies:
- Crush 2 cloves of garlic and boil in two cups of water, reduce it upto half cup. Now add little desi ghee and salt to it. Drink this liquid to expel the thick sputum.
- Take lukewarm desi ghee and mix a pinch of salt to it. Now massage chest, back and neck area with this ghee. It also helps to expel the sputum and relieve the shortness of breath.
- Two teaspoon of Vasaka (adhatoda) leaves juice mixed in honey also imparts excellent result.
